ACRISS / SIP Codes

The Association of Car Rental Industry System Standards has developed a car classification system widely used around the world to standardize vehicle definitions. Standard Interline Passenger Procedure (SIPP) codes, also known as ACRISS codes, are made up of four-letter codes that provide a uniform framework that enables both operators and customers to accurately identify and compare rental vehicles, ensuring clarity and consistency in bookings.

Each SIPP code comprises four characters, with each position representing a specific attribute of the vehicle. For example:

  • Vehicle Category (First Character): Indicates the size, for example, ranging from Mini (M) to Oversize (O); and class, such as Luxury (L) or Premium (P).
  • Vehicle Type (Second Character): Denotes the body style, such as 2-3 Door (B), Wagon/Estate (W), or SUV (F).
  • Transmission and Drive (Third Character): Specifies the transmission type and drive system, including Manual (M), Automatic (A), and variations like 4WD (B) or AWD (D).
  • Fuel Type and Air Conditioning (Fourth Character): Identifies the fuel type — Gasoline (V), Diesel (D), Hybrid (H), Electric (E)—and whether the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning.

Use this guide (USA version) to educate your audience and employees on SIPP codes:
