Washington D.C., March 17, 2025 – This morning, the American Rental Car Association’s President of the Board, Sharky Laguana, issued the following statement in response to Florida Attorney General and Law Enforcement’s actions to hold criminals accountable:
“On behalf of all ACRA members, we extend our sincere gratitude to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and the dedicated members of Florida law enforcement for their outstanding efforts in dismantling a major car rental theft ring in Fort Myers.
“The arrest of multiple individuals connected to the theft of 80 rental vehicles is a testament to the commitment of Florida authorities to protecting businesses, consumers, and communities from organized crime. Car rental companies play a vital role in Florida’s economy and tourism industry, and ensuring the safety and security of our vehicles is essential to maintaining public trust.
“The quick and decisive action taken by Florida law enforcement and Attorney General Uthmeier sends a strong message that rental car theft will not be tolerated. We appreciate their hard work in holding criminals accountable and protecting the businesses that serve millions of travelers each year.
We commend the investigative work that led to these arrests and remain committed to working alongside law enforcement to prevent fraud and theft in the rental car industry. ACRA will continue to advocate for policies that enhance security, protect consumers, and support law enforcement in their efforts to combat criminal activity.”
